Pete Prater was one of SCVVC founding members- His barn shows his love for the antique automobile.
Founding Members were Pete Prater, Bobby Garrett, Dennis Robertson, Dave Norton and Harold Patton.
The first meeting of the club was held in Dave Norton's Barn in 1979 and became the SUMNER COUNTY VINTAGE VEHICLE CLUB and the Sumner County region of the AACA. The club was incorporated August 27, 1982 as a non-profit corporation. The club's membership has grown from the original five founding members to seventy-five members over the last twenty-five years.
The club's first car show was called "Volunteer Traffic Jam" and was held at Drakes Creek Park and Hendersonville High School. This year will be the 29th Annual Bowen Campbell Auto Expo held at Moss-Wright Park in Goodlettsville, TN. The annual show is held the Saturday before Labor Day each year. For the past several years, there has been between 200 and 250 cars entered in the show with a percentage of the proceeds of each show going to The Bowen Campbell Foundation to help in the upkeep of the early settlers village and the Bowen Campbell House. Additional donations have gone to the Cancer Society, Boy Scouts, Hendersonville Samaritan Association, Haven Street Clinic, Fund to benefit Police & Firemen injured in the line of duty, Humane Society, Hospice and others.
Our Christmas Party is free to all members and is also a time to get together and prepare fruit baskets for area Nursing Homes. In 2009 over 500 baskets were distributed. All members also brought a toy for the annual "toys for tots" program that were distributed by the Sumner County Sheriff's Department. The members also brought canned food that were given to The Hendersonville Samaritan Association.
The SCVVC meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m at Mimi's Cafe in Hendersonville, TN.
